Originally I painted this painting on Yupo paper and named it Engulfed. It was the first painting that I ever had juried into an Oregon Society of Watercolor show.
The watercolor show took place in Burns Oregon which is a long ride from Portland, but it was worth it. It was so much fun to be in a show with other very talented artists.
Since then, wildfires have become an increasing issue in Oregon. I was especially heart broken over the Eagle Creek fire that was started on September 2, 2017. It took place in the beautiful Columbia Gorge. The Columbia Gorge is still recovering from it to this day.
In honor of the beauty of the Columbia Gorge, I renamed this painting Oregon Fire 2017. I think it captures the out of control nature of the blaze.
I hope that you enjoy it even though the theme is rather sad.
